Watch the Shubrook brothers creating their latest animation
Martin and Paul Shubrook www.shubrookbros.com/kiddwest grew up learning the tricks of the trade from their father who worked as a modelmaker on Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. Throughout their childhood, they created their own miniature movies and, whilst still in their teens were both recruited to work at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop in London.
By their late 20s, the Shubrook brothers were ready to branch out on their own. They sold their two-bedroom flat in Essex and threw the profits into the creation of a four-minute pilot.
Several months (and tens of thousands of pounds) later, Kidd West had become a reality with the help of a talented crew who had just completed work on Corpse Bride and Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit. Once the animation was finished, the voice of Kidd West was supplied by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.
The Movieum of London (www.themovieum.com) has launched a campaign to get Kidd West on television. In their animation studio on the South Bank you can see the original Kidd West model town used for shooting, make your own plasticine Kidd West and try your hand at storyboarding.
